What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine developed by German physician and scientist,
Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). It is based on the principle of "like cures like", also known as the Law of Similars.
This means that a substance that creates symptoms in a healthy individual will
cure an unhealthy individual who manifests similar symptoms.
The
homeopathic remedies work by acting as a stimulus to bring the incoherent or mistuned frequencies within us back into equilibrium.
For example, coffee stimulates the nervous system and the production of urine. A homeopathic dose of coffee
can cure a patient troubled with unusual mental activity and sleeplessness together with excessive production of urine. What
coffee can produce in the healthy, it can treat in the unwell.
In the last 200 years the clinical effectiveness of Homeopathy has been clearly demonstrated and it is now used
throughout the world. Homeopathy is acknowledged by the World Health Organization as a valid form of health care.
According
to homeopathy's understanding of disease, symptoms are relatively exterior manifestations of an underlying disorder; in fact,
they are the expressions of the vital force reacting against a disease and not the disease itself.
Homeopathy can create balance and health by removing blockage and pain in the individual on
all levels; mental, emotional and physical. In homeopathy obstacles to cure can be addressed and balance and health can be
restored once again!
How does it differ from conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine
is based primarily on the concept that diseases are caused by harmful organisms such as bacteria and viruses. Treatment aims
to either kill these organisms or to oppose the resulting local symptoms.
In contrast, homeopathic treatment strengthens a person's health by
acting as a catalyst to stimulate and direct the body's ability to fight infection. It also lessens any underlying susceptibility
to disease.
Homeopathy has a holistic approach that considers many symptoms in its quest to treat underlying causes of ill
health. Therefore, mental, emotional and physical symptoms play an important part in determining treatment.
In simple words, homeopathy attempts to stimulate the body
to recover itself. There is an important basic difference which exists between conventional medicine and homeopathy.
Homeopathy's aim is to cure: The complete restoration of perfect health" as Dr. Samuel
Hahnemann said.
What are the medicines?
Many
people confuse homeopathic medicine with herbal remedies or with the broad field of alternative or natural medicine. Homeopathic
medicine has its own sophisticated system of using substances from the plant, mineral, chemical, and animal kingdoms and it
has a fascinating and powerful method of strengthening the body’s own defense system.
These
remedies are made by Homeopathic Pharmacies in accordance by the FDA.
It is important to remember, that a medicine is homeopathic only if it is taken based upon the similar
nature of the medicine to the illness. A medicine labeled as "homeopathic" will work
only if it is homeopathic to the symptoms presented.
Why should homeopathy be the first choice of treatment? The
beauty of homeopathy is that it not only initiates a healing response, but it encourages and respects the body's wisdom.
Because symptoms represent the best efforts of our body in its defenses against infection or stress, it makes sense to utilize
a medicine that helps and mimics this defense rather than to inhibit or suppress. The principle of homeopathy, when used
well, can be one of our most sophisticated healing strategies.
In homeopathy symptoms are
not just something “wrong” with the body, but rather, they represent the efforts of the body and mind to defend
and heal itself from a variety of agents and/or stresses. The body creates fever, inflammation, pain, discharge, or whatever
is necessary in order to heal itself. While these symptoms represent the body’s best efforts to heal, they are not always
successful in doing so. Ultimately, homeopathic remedies are some of the most powerful natural medicines available
today to help stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself.
Medical science
today is increasingly recognizing symptoms as adaptive responses of the body. Standard texts of pathology define the process
of inflammation as the manner in which the body seeks to wall off, heat up, and burn out infective agents or foreign matter.
The cough has long been known as a protective mechanism for clearing breathing passages. Diarrhea has been shown to be a defensive
effort of the body to remove pathogens or irritants more quickly from the colon. Discharges are understood as the body's way
of ridding itself of dead bacteria, viruses, and cells. Even high blood pressure is an important defense and adaptation to
the internal and external stresses that a person experiences.
The derivation
of the word “symptom” is helpful to better
understanding the disease process and the healing process. The word "symptom" comes from a Greek root and refers to "something that falls together with something else." Symptoms
are a “sign” or a “signal” of something else, and treating them doesn't necessarily change that "something
else." Just because a drug gets rid of a symptom does not mean that the person is cured. In fact, drugs that suppress or inhibit
a symptom tend to provide only a guise of success and usually lead to a longer and more serious illness. Using drugs to suppress
symptoms is akin to pulling the plug on your car’s oil pressure warning light. Just because the light is turned off
doesn’t mean that your car’s oil pressure is “cured.” In fact, ignoring that light may lead to your
car’s breakdown.
When one recognizes
that symptoms are important and useful defenses of the body, it makes sense to use less drugs that inhibit or suppress this
wisdom of the body.
Since our approach is
based on individuality of our patients, we have come to understand through our clinical practice that some patients especially those
with ASD, ADHD and other neurological challenges need to be treated by isopathy, which is a form of homeopathy.
Isopathy is a step by step detoxification with the homeopathic diluted and potentized substances that caused the disturbance.
We use different potencies to clear out the energetic field of the patient from the imprints of the toxic substances or
diseases.
